Are you dreaming of an intimate wedding in a stunning destination, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and rich cultures? Vietnam, Bali, and Thailand are three of the top elopement destinations in Asia – but how do you choose the right one for you?
In this guide, we’ll break down the key differences in scenery, cost, legal requirements, vendor availability, and travel logistics — so you can make the best decision for your elopement in 2025.
Each destination offers its own charm:
Whether you’re into nature, culture, or relaxation – let’s dive into the comparison.
Not just a destination, but a feeling. A connection. A story waiting to be told through every mountain, river, and smile.
| Destination | Highlights |
|---|---|
| Vietnam | Ninh Binh’s limestone mountains and rivers, Ocean Beach’s Ha Long Bay, Sapa’s rice terraces/misty mountains/waterfalls, and Da Nang’s golden beaches. |
| Bali | Waterfalls, rice paddies in Ubud, ocean cliffs in Uluwatu. |
| Thailand | Phi Phi islands, white sand beaches in Phuket, and the jungle in Chiang Mai. |
Why Vietnam? You’ll find diverse landscapes within short travel distances, perfect for couples who want multiple locations in one elopement day (mountains, rivers, and beaches).

Eloping in Vietnam is mostly symbolic for foreigners. Legal marriages can be complex due to documentation, language, and residency rules. Most couples choose to legalize their marriage in their home country and have a symbolic elopement in Vietnam.

Quick tip: Always consult your home country’s embassy and local wedding planner for updated legal requirements.

Each location holds its own rhythm, its own texture—like the different seasons of a love story. You don’t have to choose between mountains or the sea. Here, you can have both, in just a few days.
| Destination | Typical Elopement Budget | Inclusions |
|---|---|---|
| Vietnam | $2,000 – $5,000 | Photography, planning, florals, HMUA, and accommodation |
| Bali | $4,000 – $8,000 | Often higher due to venue/luxury add-ons |
| Thailand | $3,000 – $6,500 | Mid-range to luxury packages |
Why Vietnam wins: You get high-quality services, incredible landscapes, and cultural richness – all at a fraction of the cost compared to Bali.

Vietnam’s vendor scene is growing rapidly, with award-winning photographers and personalized service — without the “wedding factory” feel.
| Destination | Visa Requirements | Accessibility |
|---|---|---|
| Vietnam | E-visa for most countries (valid 90 days) | Direct flights to Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh |
| Bali | Visa on arrival for many countries | Popular routes from Asia/Oceania |
| Thailand | Visa-free or visa on arrival | Excellent connectivity |
Vietnam is becoming more accessible than ever — with relaxed visa policies and international airport options (Da Nang, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Phu Quoc).

Whether you’re planning a full-day adventure elopement or a quiet sunrise vow exchange in the mountains, Vietnam gives you the freedom and romance you’re dreaming of.

Technically, yes, but the legal process is complicated and time-consuming. That’s why most couples choose a symbolic ceremony and legally marry in their home country.
Vietnam is still an emerging wedding destination. That means lower vendor costs, fewer tourist markups, and more flexibility — while still offering world-class experiences.
The ideal seasons:
Absolutely. Having a local English-speaking team helps with logistics, permits, location scouting, styling, and ensuring your day runs smoothly — so you can simply focus on each other.
Yes! Vietnam is incredibly diverse. Many couples combine sunrise in the mountains + sunset by the sea – all within a day or two.

Thang was absolutely incredible when he took our engagement photos this year. I was so lucky that we connected and ended up planning an amazing experience from the other side of the world. When I initially contacted him, I was planning a surprise engagement for my to be fiancé during a trip to Halong bay.
He helped me keep it a secret, had stellar communication, and together we planned a day long shoot at multiple locations. On the shooting day, he brought two other photographers on his team and had some absolutely stunning shots that will last us a lifetime.
He is talented beyond belief and we had an amazing time. If you are thinking about working with him, know that he is the right person for your special day/occasion and that you won’t regret your decision (and that you will walk away feeling incredibly lucky and happy). Thank you so much, Thang! 110/100

Amazing photos, Thang is so sweet and very persistent, he knows how to make us laugh on every photo too! Perfect editing and he has a beautiful personality. We eloped to Vietnam and Thang was very nice to take our photos! We loved them and him too 🥰🥰🥰

Our experience working with Thang was amazing. He made us feel so comfortable and guided us the whole time! We had never had professional photos done before, and I’ll admit I was a bit nervous about how it would go, especially since we were coming all the way from Canada and our only communication had been online and over a few video calls. We felt right at ease and I could not believe how amazing the photos looked after just seeing a few sneak peeks during our first shoot!!
I was initially drawn to Thang’s work via his Instagram page and LOVED the way he captured the couple’s moments and the beautiful surroundings as well. The fact that he even travelled to the location we’d chosen for our wedding (Phu Quoc Island) was so incredible. Our wedding went off without a hitch. He also found/suggested a florist who provided the decor for our ceremony and a beautiful backdrop for our photos.
We are forever grateful to have met and worked with Thang. We have gorgeous photos we will be able to look at and remember our trip by, and share with our family and our future children one day! Do not hesitate to hire him, he is the best!! Thank you, Thang <3
